NAME

chprnsys - switch the current print subsystem to CUPS or LP

SYNOPSIS

     chprnsys [ cups | lp ]

DESCRIPTION

The chprnsys command performs all the tasks required to
switch between the Common UNIX Print Subsystem (CUPS) and
the UNIX System V LP Subsystem (LP). If no arguments are
supplied, chprnsys reports the currently active print sub-
     system, as in this example:

          # chprnsys
UX:chprnsys: INFO: lp is the active print system.

You must be logged in as root to change the active print
     susbsystem.

When switching print subsystems, chprnsys stops the current
print service, makes a copy of the existing print configura-
tion, configures the new print service, and modifies the
manual pages to display the appropriate documentation. The
new print service is then started.

ARGUMENTS

cups Switches to the CUPS print subsystem.

lp Switches to the LP print subsystem.

WARNINGS

In general, printing related commands affect only the
currently active print subsystem. Note, however, that when
CUPS is the active print subsystem, some utilities used by
the LP subsystem are still available (for example, the
lpfilter command). Executing these LP commands while CUPS
is active has no effect on CUPS.
