Solving filesystem problems

Checking bfs filesystems

All I/O for bfs filesystems is synchronous; therefore, bfs filesystems will not be corrupted, even if proper shutdown procedures are not observed.

Corruption of a bfs filesystem is likely to occur only if the system crashes during the process of compaction. See ``Compaction'' for more information.

fsck checks the sanity words stored in the bfs superblock to see if compaction was in process before the system crashed. If it was, fsck completes the compaction of the filesystem.
