Introduction to using the system

Working with files and directories

A file is the basic unit in which the UnixWare system stores information. Files are organized into directories. You can create, update, copy and delete files, and move them between directories, on the desktop:

There are also commands to perform these tasks, which you may prefer to use if you are familiar with working on the command line, or if you need to perform complex tasks involving many files. See ``Managing files'' for details.

Files are also created, updated, moved and deleted when you work with applications. Until you know what you are doing, you should not move or update files unless you have created them.
