Configuring Plug and Play devices

Applying and deferring hardware configuration

In most cases, Plug and Play devices are available for use as soon as configuration is complete. When you return to the main window, click on Apply to enable any device modifications and click on OK to have them take effect immediately.

However, if you are modifying values for a device that is currently in use, you should defer your configuration changes and have them take effect at the next system reboot. To do so, in the PnP Configuration Manager:

  1. Click on Apply when you completed configuration. Messages appear as system files are updated.

  2. Click on Cancel to have the new configuration take effect at the next reboot.

  3. Rebuild your system as described in ``Rebuilding your system''.

  4. Halt the system using the System Shutdown Manager or the shutdown(1M) command.

  5. Boot the system into multiuser mode.
