CAPI

CAPI (Common ISDN API) is an application programming interface standard used to access ``ISDN'' devices. In the SCO ISDN device driver implementation on SVR5, CAPI messages are embedded in ``MDI'' messages, allowing applications or other drivers to communicate with an ISDN device through the MDI/CAPI interface.

CAPI provides:

• support for basic call features, such as call setup and teardown

• multiple B-channel support for data and/or voice connections

• multiple logical connection support for data links within a physical connection

• optional selection of different services and protocols during connection setup and incoming calls

• transparent interface for protocols above layer 3

• support for Basic Rate Interfaces (BRI) and Primary Rate Interfaces (PRI) on multiple ISDN devices

• support for multiple applications

• operating system-independent messages

• an operating system-dependent exchange mechanism for optimum operating system integration

• a high throughput, asynchronous event-driven mechanism

• a well defined interface for device-specific expansions
