Adding and configuring modems

Testing whether you can dial in

If you want to allow dial-in connections, follow these steps to test your system:

  1. Check that the modem is set to auto-answer. There may be an ``Auto Answer'' light on the modem's front panel to show this.

  2. Enable the modem control port using:

    sacadm -e -p ttymonN -s term/00m

    (see sacadm(1M) and pmadm(1M) commands.)

The port monitor itself may be disabled. This is shown by an 'x' in FLGS field when pmadm -l is run. Re-enable the port monitor by entering:

    pmadm -e -p ttymonN -s term/00m

ttymonN and term/00m relate to the ttymon and serial device in use.

  3. Dial this modem from another modem.
If you have any problems, see ``Problems dialing in''.

If incoming data is being lost on a high-speed modem, then, for maximum performance, increase the trigger level to 14 using the Serial Manager. See ``Configuring a serial port'' for more information.
