Interpreting ndstat(1M) output

Use the ndstat(1M) command to examine the status of the network interface. With no options, ndstat shows basic information about network drivers:

Device MAC address in use Factory MAC Address
   ------ ------------------ -------------------
   /dev/net0 00:00:c0:ec:d5:4c 00:00:c0:ec:d5:4c

Multicast address table ------------------------ 01:00:5e:00:00:01

FRAMES Unicast Multicast Broadcast Error Octets Queue Length ---------- --------- --------- ------ ----------- ------------ In: 33254 0 16133 7 4880475 0 Out: 24785 3 16 9 3029828 0

A certain number of errors is normal. It is considered normal if the total number of errors listed in the Error column is less than 1% of the total number of FRAMES in and out.

Use the ndstat -l option to display Ethernet-specific information from the DLPI (Data Link Provider Interface) and MDI (MAC Driver Interface) modules.

In a TCP/IP environment, the netstat(1Mtcp) command (particularly the -i, -m, and -s options) is also useful for identifying physical network problems. For more information, see ``Troubleshooting TCP/IP''

If you are not using TCP/IP, see crash(1M).
