Administering privilege

File and process privileges

Privileges are possessed by processes. A process uses its privileges to override specific system restrictions. A process cannot override a specific system restriction without the appropriate privilege or privileges. Privileges may be placed on files, so that processes that execute the file will pick up the associated privileges.
