Your next step, after creating the input files, is to convert them into the dbm format that the NIS service expects. This is done automatically for you by ypinit when you call it on the master server, as explained in the section ``Setting up the master server''. ypinit, among other things, calls the program ypbuild, which uses the Makefile located in /var/yp.
