What are porting, integration, and compatibility?

Determining compatibility issues

NOTE: This section reviews what you need to do to determine the compatibility issues for a particular application. For a review of SCO OpenServer Release 5 and SCO UnixWare 2.1.X compatibility support in UnixWare 7, see:

To determine the compatibility issues that are relevant to porting your application to the UnixWare 7 platform, you must examine:

The coding practices and standards followed in the application software and the standards adhered to by the UnixWare 7 compilation and run-time environments are the main factors in determining the difficulty of the task of porting an application to a new operating environment.

See ``UnixWare standards conformance''.

When porting software to the UnixWare 7 platform or writing new software, it is important to keep in mind the issues that make your software an integral part of the system. When a user installs your software on their system, it is helpful if your software conforms to the conventions of that system, including the graphical user interfaces provided. This allows your users to manage and interact with your software in a way that is consistent with the rest of their system.

See ``Integrating software with UnixWare 7'' for a review of the integration tools provided by UnixWare 7.
