Adding a NIC


NOTE: The following procedure assumes that the target slot is already powered-off, (see ``Turning slot power off'' ), its attention indicator is on (see ``Turning a slot attention indicator on'' ), and the interlock is open.

To add a NIC:

  1. Physically insert the NIC into the slot, and connect the cable.

  2. Lock the interlock for the slot (if it has one).

    The Hot Plug Manager displays an locked interlock indicator (closed padlock).

  3. Select the slot that contains the new NIC (click on the slot icon).

  4. Turn power on for the slot. See ``Turning slot power on''.


    NOTE: If the NIC fails to initialize properly the slot automatically powers-off.
