Managing Hot Plugable controllers

Adding a controller


NOTE: The following procedure assumes that the target slot is already powered-off, (see ``Turning slot power off'' ), its attention indicator is on (see ``Turning a slot attention indicator on'' ), and the interlock is open.

To add a controller:

  1. Verify that the new controller is configured properly, and a device driver is installed that can support the new controller. See ``Preparing to add or replace a controller''.

  2. Physically insert the controller into the slot, and connect the cable(s).

  3. Lock the interlock for the slot (if it has one).

    The Hot Plug Manager displays an locked interlock indicator (closed padlock).

  4. Select the slot that contains the new controller (click on the slot icon).

  5. Turn power on for the slot. See ``Turning slot power on''.


    NOTE: Some controllers take time to initialize after they have been powered-on. You might have to wait until the controller is fully initialized before proceeding to the next step. If the controller fails to initialize properly the slot automatically powers-off.
